The Paravoor Public Library was started by a group of young people who gathered at the Bhagavathikkal temple grounds in 1947.
At that time, it started functioning in a rented building. In 1957, they acquired their own land and constructed a new building.
In 1988, a multi-storey building was built there and with extensive activities, it earned the title of the best rural library in Kerala.
The library has more than 44000 books and more than 3000 members.
The library has received numerous awards including the EMS Award, the Samathadam Parameswaran Award, and many more,
given by the State Library Council to the best libraries in Kerala.
Former Chief Minister Shri. V.S. Achuthanandan, former Minister Shri. G. Sudhakaran, former District Panchayat President
Smt. C.S. Sujata, and many other prominent personalities are lifetime members of the library.
As part of the National Highway development, the library building had to be demolished. The funds collected from the
library members were used to purchase a plot of land, and a three-story building was constructed with the Asset Development
Fund of Shri. G.Sudhakaran MLA. The library is currently functioning near the Paravoor Junction, Alappuzha.
